At the end of the 1994 regular season, Sterling suffered a neck injury which ended his career. After his retirement from the NFL, Sterling became an analyst for the NFL Network. His younger brother, Shannon, was one of the NFL’s top tight ends from the 1990’s to the early 2000’s.
Although Sterling Sharpe career was cut short due to injury, he still had a career worth talking about. Sterling set the Green Bay Packers record for most receptions by a rookie. In 1993, he set the National Football League record for most number of receptions in a single season. He then went on to set the Packers record for most games in a row with at least one pass reception. Sterling led the National Football League in touchdown receptions in 1994. Also, in 1994, he became the first National Football League player to catch at least 100 passes two seasons in a row.
Shannon Sharpe played tight end for the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens. Shannon was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He played 12 seasons for the Broncos and two with the Ravens. Over that time span, he won three Super Bowls and finishing his career as the NFL’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns by a tight end; until Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten surpassed those records. Shannon was named to the First Team of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990’s.
