This years Super Bowl matchup was a game of consistency. Who could consistently score points and keep the other team guessing. At first the game was a heavy weight boxing match. Both teams exchanging blows to keep the score the same. Yet the fourth quarter was when that consistency became little off balance.
Patrick mahomet was chasing something not every human can achieve. He was chasing to be the youngest Super Bowl wining quarterback ever. But he didn’t just do that, on Sunday, he became the youngest MVP Super Bowl quarterback ever. The 24 year old, has been a dominant force in the league since he joined.
It seemed as if the Cheifs were playing with a chip on their shoulder the entire playoffs, and that chip carried them all the way through this game as well. Being down 10 in the biggest game of your life to some might seem impossible to overcome. Yet the Cheifs never seemed out of the game. They trailed every playoff game that they played in this season, so this team was no stranger to climbing the mountain and getting over that hump.
Coach Andy Reid stats, “I knew this team was different back when we couldn’t even practice with pads on. I knew this team was going to win it all 2 weeks into practice with pads. You could just see that this years team had a different vibe to them. They could score at will, the defense will hold you to a little amount of points, and we have weapons all over the field on both offensive and defense. We built this team to win the Super Bowl, so this is a very deserving group. “
The game itself was an interesting one. Both teams paying very conservative in the first half, both only scoring 10 points by the end of the second quarter. Typically these two teams spread the ball out and use there weapons to drive down the field. But second half Kyle Shanahan was more conservative than ever. Running the ball, late in the Super Bowl does not lead the team to victory. To win the Super Bowl you need to throw the ball at a high percentage, to even come close to wining the big dance. It just turned out that Patrick Mahomes was ready to go as soon as that fourth quarter hit.
“It came down to we wanted it more. We saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and we have worked so hard since the beginning of the year t0o even get here. So to get here and to win it all means so much to this team, this organization and to Kansas City.” Patrick Mahomes explain.
Cheif’s fans should be happy, after a devastating end to the season the past 2 years, they finally have something to show for the regular season success. Andy Reid also becomes a Super Bowl winning coach, something he personally waited 22 years for.
This game was one for the ages and for it being the 10th most watched Super Bowl in the history of the game, I believe this game deserves that credit.
