Out of the Loft, Into Reality; A Hipster Quits Williamsburg, and Gets a Haircut

This article by Michael Brick is one that did not truly capture my attention the entire time. to be completely honest, if I found this article as I was scrolling through twitter, I would most likely just continue to scroll. But that is beside the point because this article proves the point of whatever your lady wants to do you follow. Quite literally. The article describes Todd Fatjo as no former president or renowned poet, just a tiny bellwether from Williamsburg. Mr. Fatjo had an expansive loft for from the main drag of stores. He held a job at the record store and would run around the city doing gigs as a D.J. The article explains how the party scene is dying, especially the older you get. It seems as if, this man is going from an upbeat hipster to an old mister. No pun intended. Yet my reaction to this does not change. The party scene dies as you get older. People can’t live the same lives as they once did when they were 21 years of age. And that is okay, people just need to learn how to accept that sad reality of life. I guess the big question to this article; is why? I believe the answer to that is love. Love is a weird thing, and it does even weirder things to people. Like the article mentions, “it can spin a cynical hipster around like a record.” After reading this article it is clear to me that, love is exactly what this man is going through. He moved in with this girl and as soon as that happened everything, he once lived went right out the window. Despite all the changes going on in his new life, looking back to his old life was still something that Todd did. I believe the most intriguing part of this article was how he described the parties that were being thrown. Todd explained how he had a handful of insane parties throughout his time living in the city, so insane in fact that he had to have not one, but three separate sound systems playing music around the house. However, as discussed earlier, as time goes on people change. And he went from this man who threw these incredible parties to someone who was just going to move of out of his “dope” apartment. He goes on by stating that the apartment is in a wonderful area, surrounded by a Dunkin Donuts, and two .99 cent stores in walking distance from his place. The best part of his reason for leaving was his wife. “The only reason I am leaving is because my girlfriend and myself want to get a place to ourselves and this place is too big.” Weird coming from someone who lived this kind of lifestyle every day. But that is none of my business. At the end of the day, this article was not one of my favorites, but it definitely shined some light on important topics of adulthood.
